We are happy to be apart of the inaugural battle of the Bulldog when will travel to Bogota in May. The scheduled match on May 18th will see the Bogota Bulldogs host the Denver Bulldogs in a genuine battle of the Americas. The Bogota team, and the greater Colombia AFL, have grown quickly over the past couple of years from a “kick in the park” entity to a three team national Colombian competition that is now attracting international teams. The match will feature a full size competition – 18 per team – in an event that is quoted as a game that “will raise the quality of South American footy forever”.

As some of you have already heard, our club has been extended an invitation to play an inaugural AFL match in Colombia in 2019. Patrick Smallwood, the President of the Bogota Bulldogs Australian Football Club, has been working for several years to develop Aussie Rules down south, and is mates with our own Club VP, Jeremy O’Connell. Their club is about 3 years old now, and has over 90 active members split into 3+ teams across Bogota – of which 50% are Colombians. Annually they play matches against the Santiago Saints, the only other AFL Club in South America, but they are seeking new opposition for 2019 and beyond.

The match is currently set for May 18th, 2019 at the Bulldogs home ground in Bogota. For those who arrive earlier in the week, the potential exists to participate in one or more of their trainings, volunteer with their Auskick program, and take in the sights & culture of Colombia through various club connections. Their club has generously offered an accomodation package which includes:
-Airport Transfers.
-2 night accommodation in twin rooms
-Breakfast daily
-Bus transport to and from the grounds
-Welcome BBQ Friday night.
-Presentation Dinner and event Saturday night including a free pint and great beer deals from their craft beer sponsor.

The move to invite Denver down to Colombia opens the door to regular competition with their fellow Bulldogs for years to come, but also provides an incentive for teams from other nations to plan a trip south – or potentially host the Bogota team at some point.

Let’s show these boys who the real Bulldogs are and take home the inaugural cup for this match!
