Summary:    DENVER VS ATLANTA

The first game of the season for the Denver Lady Bulldogs was against Atlanta - the sky was still a little grey but the endeavor of both sides was outstanding. The Denver Ladies made up for their lack of experience with great commitment to the ball and stuck to their game plan. The early loss of Jalyssa Brummer was the most disappointing aspect of the game. At half time the scores were tight and reflected the closeness of all of the contests. Atlanta won more contests in the second half but the Lady Bulldogs delivered a very promising performance.

Final Score:        Denver 2.0.12 vs Atlanta 4.4.28
Goals:                Jessie Hazen, Monica Rasocha
Best players:      Jessie Hazen, Hallie Adrian, Monica Rasocha

General Announcements, Match Reports
by Sasha Sibree

For all the former Bulldogs, Bulldogs supporters and current players, I’ve got a couple of minutes before work, I’ll try and recap the weekend for you. It really was a tremendous team effort, forgive me if I forget to acknowledge the occasional individual.

First game was against Boston. It had been raining most of Friday and at 9am the fields still had puddles.

What I remember most was it was challenging to stay on your feet and be able to hold on to the footy. At half time it was a close game, maybe one point in it.

The second half was a little better and we pulled away. Final score Denver 4.7-31 Boston 1.2-8.

A win is a win but it was an expensive one for us. Ben Harling received a compression blow to his neck. He suffered a fracture to one of his neck vertebrae. Luckily no spinal cord injury. He was out of hospital Saturday night. He’ll be in a neck brace for 6 weeks. Tommy did his MCL, and I got forced into a pretzel position and did my hammy. This match-up also saw Willi play in his 100th USAFL game.

The 2008 Nationals is in the books and after a sloppy, wet, cold one in Colorado Springs, the Dogs ultimately fell short of their goals. A few of the bright spots on the weekend: the women's club making it to the semi-final against Calgary and showing Atlanta they are to be reckoned with. Men's Divvy 1 squad keeping the unbeaten steak over New York and Orange County alive. The first time in Dogs history they've fielded 3 complete sides in the competition. The fantastic effort of all the new players. Rookie shots. The great turn out and atmosphere of our function Sunday night. Tom, Dom, Bruce, Wads & Richie putting in way more than was required, requested, and expected. Crickets. Bayden somehow slipping past the mighty border patrol. Feds giving up a knee for the boys. Allicia giving up a knee for the girls. Dom striving to leave no joint intact. The RV. The fire that has been lit for next year. Janice showing a complete disregard for a beautiful face. VIP drink passes. First USAFL coach's yellow card. And a hundred other moments that make this one hell of a footy club.

Winner of the Aspen Ski Package raffle: Amy Kennedy of Denver, CO. Pictures of the weekend can be seen all over Facebook as well as here and here

Way to go fellas, this shows that we continue to be the best in everything we do as a club, both on and off the field.

Chris "Candy" Candelaria, Mike LeValley and Robert Strange have been named to the U.S. Revolution squad travelling to Australia in August to compete in the 2008 Australian Rules International Cup. Over 16 countries will converge in Melbourne and Warrnambool for the third International Cup. Never before has the Cup hosted this many countries, and the event takes on greater significance this year as Australia celebrates the 150th birthday of its Indigenous game. The U.S. hopes to improve on its 3rd place finish in 2005 and the Bulldogs named to this years squad are the latest Bulldogs to have the honor of playing for the Revolution. Candy has played over 100 games for the Bulldogs and has been a steady performer in the middle making his name as one of the fiercest competitors in the USAFL.
